Most people reading his blog know that I will primarily promote a good weight lifting program as a solution to most goals and problems. However, often we need a different stimulus, or other motivation. A great way to get a pretty decent workout, depending on how much you put into it, is going to spin class. There are many spin class benefits that you might not have even thought about, and they can help you to achieve your goals, in a different, structured and motivated setting. Spinning class benefits are not just limited to losing weight, read on to find out why this could be a great addition to your weekly workout. I for one started doing spinning classes in my off season, for something different, to help motivate me, and to get me fit.
Motivation: It doesn’t matter if you are an athlete or haven’t set foot in a gym in your life, motivation is always tough. Heading to the gym and running on the treadmill is not only bad for your knees, but also quite boring. Spinning classes are a way to have someone to push you to your limits, and help you reach goals and motivation levels you may not have known existed. Also helps that you have up to 30 other people in the room sweating it up around you, makes you want to work harder, take my word for it.
Fitness Benefits: The fact is that spinning is a really good workout for your legs, and also gets your heart pumping. Although the aerobic benefits might not be as great as going for a run, you certainly get your heart rate up very high, help get some aerobic fitness, and by goodness it is definitely a good leg endurance workout. Climbing those hills is not easy, and for an athlete like me who can squat double my body weight easily, I still struggle in these classes. The different stimulus is great, and there are a lot of fitness benefits.
Weight Loss: For those wanting to lose weight, spinning is one of the best activities. You will be working out with high intensity for nearly one hour. Obviously it depends on how much you push yourself, but the fact is that you will burn a whole lot of calories. This is great for people with the goal of losing weight, and it should be a supplement to your gym program for anyone looking for overall fitness and weight loss.
